To be a successful student at the university is the dream of
every student. This dream became reality for a number of students; but for
others it is still a far-fetched one. The latter category believes that being
successful requires extra, arduous hard work; others believe that successful
students are born so. As a reaction to such misguided attitudes, in this essay,
I will shed light on three crucial habits that every student should embody so
as to make the dream of being successful comes true.
The first habit students need to have is the respect of time.
Students who highly appreciate the importance of time tend to respect their
schedule and thus they are seldom absent. Being on time is a demonstration that
you do care about your study; it is also a proof that you are motivated and
eager to have successful results. Apart from this, being on time is a sign that
you respect both your teachers and classmates. Students who arrive late disturb
the class; they interrupt the teacher while lecturing and they, themselves,
find difficulty to focus as a result of missing the first main part of the
lecture. On the contrary, successful students are always in the classroom
before the teacher arrives. They discuss the previous lesson together, share
notes, and prepare themselves for the next course. In addition to this,
successful students have the habit of revising their lessons on time; they are
inclined to revise on a daily basis so as to avoid any stress when exams are
nearer.
The second habit deemed necessary for being successful at the
university is that of taking being physically as well as emotionally healthy. So
as to be concentrated for two or three hours during a lecture is not an easy
task. Likewise, to concentrate on ones' studies for the whole semester is,
indeed, emotionally and physically tiring. Being successful heavily depends on
a good attention span and great energy. Therefore, eating healthy food,
exercising, sleeping well, and being skillful in dealing with stressful
situation are badly required for every university students in order to deal
with the challenges of a long, overloaded, and arduous semester. Countless are
the students who gave their dream of being successful just because their first
grade in a certain subject was a fiasco. Successful students know how to deal
with such negative emotions. They learn from their mistakes, deem failure as a
first step towards success, and focus on their positive achievements.
In addition to the
importance of both respecting time as well as being physically and emotionally
ready, successful students are the ones who have the habit of attending
classes, doing their homework, and focusing on their studies. They have the
habit of never being absent unless a true emergency arises. They consider presence a priority because they
are actively engaged with the teacher; they are taking notes and are in
constant interaction with him/her during and after the course. Adding to this, successful
students have the habit of doing their homework; they seldom postpone it until
the next day or next week for they have balance in their life. This kind of
students has a strong personality for they know when to say "no" for
someone who is about to destruct them. In other words, their main focus is on
their studies. Thus, much of their times is dedicated to do their assignments,
revise, and get ready for the next session.
All in all, success at the university is, generally, a matter
of habits. Good habits, as the ones mentioned above, will pave the way to
success; whereas bad ones will, undoubtedly, result in unsatisfactory results.
It up to students to decide which category they want to belong to. Either they
act in a professional manner and thus embody these habits, or watch the ones
with such habits achieve their dreams and build their future. It's high time to
stop watching and give it a try.
